Brandeis University invites applicants to apply for an asynchronous online Adjunct Co-Instructor to teach a course on THLC 200 Theory - based Methodologies for Teaching Hebrew as a World / Second Language.

The course explores the core theory-based methodologies for teaching Hebrew, focusing on the language's power to impact learners' worldviews by contextualizing it in its ideological origins and cultural connections.

This is a fall 2024 semester course, beginning 8 / 28 / 2024 - 12 / 10 / 2024.

Outcomes of the course :

These outcomes highlight the comprehensive skills and knowledge participants will gain through this course, preparing them to effectively teach Hebrew as a world / second language :

  • Show proficiency in core theory-based methodologies for teaching world / second languages.
  • Develop techniques to adapt methodologies for different age groups and learning needs.
  • Analyze the impact of teaching practice on learners’ outcomes.
  • Create innovative, theory-based methodologies for teaching Hebrew.

Job Functions - Online Group Meetings :

  • Lead weekly online group meetings (min. 1 hour) based on students’ demand.
  • Facilitate online discussions and evaluate student work.
  • Provide written and oral feedback on a weekly basis, to students’ assignments.
  • Assign final grades based on student performance and participation.

Responsibilities :

  • Teaching online (THLC 200 Methodologies in teaching Hebrew as a world / second language).
  • Revise the materials of the course, as necessary.
  • Adjust the materials to the profile of the students.
  • Give students feedback on their work.
  • Lead asynchronous and synchronous online discussions and activities.
  • Assess student learning progress.
  • Provide academic support to students.
  • Collaborate and inform the director of the Consortium about student progress.

Requirements :

  • Minimum degree requirement Master in Hebrew Language Education, Second Language Acquisition, or related field.
  • Knowledge of core principles of language acquisition (SLA).
  • Proven experience in training Hebrew educators in academic setting in the US, in the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • A strong interest in the field of teaching Hebrew as a world / second language.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including near-native writing and editing in both English and Hebrew.
  • Ability to create engaging, experiential learning experiences.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse students.
  • Familiarity with Hebrew language education in various educational contexts.
