Summary :
Under the direction of the Bradley Hospital Clinical Nursing
Director of Adolescent Services and Clinical Nurse Managers assists in the
implementation of the Nursing and Patient Care Services Program and the online
clinical administration of the Program. Assistant Nurse Manager functions
as a member of the Program management team. Assistant Nurse Manager is
responsible for the supervision of the department nursing staff schedules and
relief coverage. Performs role and duties of clinical nurse. Provides services
to children and adolescents.

Program milieu.
Consistently demonstrates
high level application of the clinical nursing processwith
patients / families providing direct patient care when assigned.
Demonstrates ongoing
administrative expertise in the shift-to-shift nursing / milieu services
management of the Program.
Utilizes clinical and
administrative expertise to make informed judgments regarding shift-to-shift
patient care assignments to online clinical staff.
Intervenes to assertively
manage complex nursing care problems utilizing the lease restrictive safe
patient care alternative.
Communicates and documents
significant clinical / administrative findings to Nurse Manager in a timely
fashion.
Supports online staff to
develop and maintain patient advocacy role.
Models and supports online
staff to resolve conflicts and concerns through direct communication and
proactive problem solving.
Strictly adheres to Program
policies and procedures Joint Commission acute care standards and Program
clinical / administrative protocols.
Prioritizes the maintenance
of a safe and dignified patient care setting.
Exhibits clinical leadership
excellence through assertive participation in program-based treatment
planning / discussion forums.
Demonstrates management
leadership excellence through assertive participation in on / off program
administrative forums.
Functions as Program Charge
RN when scheduled.
Acts as Nurse Manager
representative when assigned.
Demonstrates clinical
leadership expertise in the supervision teaching and evaluation of online
clinical staff. Identifies standards of child psychiatric nursing and milieu
therapist performance consistent with Program and Hospital standards of
practice and care.
Communicates the expectation
that program-based psychiatric nursing and patient care services will be
practiced in accordance with Hospital / Program policy.
Maintains a current awareness
of online clinical abilities and limitations of staff RNs Milieu Therapists
and Program Clerks.
Provides nursing and milieu therapy
supervision to online clinical staff as assigned.
Consistently documents
registered nursing and Milieu Therapist performance information in accordance
with Hospital policy.
Participates supportively in
addressing problematic performance standards of Program-based staff.
Provides effective
consultation to Program Nurse Manager in the hiring and evaluation of online
clinical staff.
Consistently updates Program
nursing and milieu service staff regarding significant policy and procedure
changes.
Regularly provides for
orientation of assigned staff via preceptorship / teaching and forwards staff
orientation record to Nurse Manager.
Arranges and documents
ongoing in-service education / certification of assigned Program employees
according to Program policy.
Actively supports and / or
coordinates Program-based QI conformance.
Acts as staff resource
regarding nursing aspects of psychopharmacology seclusion / restraint and the
activation of the Emergency Response System.
Demonstrates consistent
competence and autonomy in representing Program nursing and milieu services
issues in assigned liaison roles. Represents Program in assigned hospital-wide
committee forums.

Registered Nurse License.

Attends a minimum of 6
Program meetings per year.
Attends a minimum of 3
non-mandatory in-services per year.
Maintains current CPR
certification.
Maintains Current Crisis
Management certification
Maintains current ERS
certification.
Other information :
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE :
Must have current licensure
to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. BSN preferred.
BLS (American Heart
Association) required.
Demonstrated knowledge and
skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with
consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural
patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE : Two years of acute
Two years of acute
psychiatric nursing experience with one year associated with child psychiatric
subspecialty.
INDEPENDENT ACTION :
Performs independently within
Program policies and practices. Refers
specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of Program policies
and procedures may be required.
