Purpose

The Assistant Vice Provost for Programs (AVPP) is a key member of Texas Global's core senior leadership team. Under the direction of the Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement (SVPGE), the role identifies new funding opportunities for UT Austin to expand the institution's global engagement portfolio both on campus and abroad.

The Assistant Vice Provost for Programs collaborates with university leadership, colleges, schools, units, and external stakeholders to advance campus internationalization.

Responsibilities include overseeing strategic initiatives and high-profile global engagement programs, expanding academic and research partnerships, managing project flow, and ensuring a continued expansion of contracts / grants awarded to Texas Global.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Assist the SVPGE with developing and managing short-and long-term goals and objectives for Texas Global and for wider institutional strategic initiatives.
  • Identify external funding government, private, and foundation sources to increase program activities that champion institutional global engagement.
  • Oversee funded projects across units, including program deliverables for approval by the SVPGE.
  • Ensure projects / initiatives are implemented and tracked for progress, from concept through completion.
  • Conduct research and assume leadership for special projects as appropriate.
  • Scope, plan, and execute quick-turnaround projects with limited outside assistance.

Supervision

  • Lead teams committed to developing and administering high-impact global programs with governments, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and non-profit organizations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with program sponsors and prospective partners.
  • Establish methods to assess progress on program goals and staff performance.

Outreach

  • Represent the Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement (SVPGE) in internal and external meetings to help drive a deeper understanding of internationalization with stakeholders and advance decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders and partners across the university and abroad.

Required Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in a relevant field with at least twelve years of leadership and supervisory experience in a complex organization (higher education, government, private sector, or NGO).
  • Commitment to working collaboratively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, motivate teams, and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Deep knowledge of current trends, challenges, and best practices in international higher education.
  • Demonstrate political acumen, strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and an ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes;
  • Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data.
  • Excellent organizational, English communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and intercultural skills.
  • Experience living and / or working abroad.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's or terminal degree in a relevant field, with at least ten years of experience leading teams within a complex organization (higher education, government, private sector, or NGO).
  • Experience working in foreign affairs, internationalization in higher education, or government, with a broad knowledge of higher education institutions, including administrative operations, academic affairs, or student affairs.
  • Experience with grants oversight and administration and / or philanthropic giving.
  • Professional fluency in a language other than English.

Salary Range

$165,000

Working Conditions

Work in a shared office environment. Work around standard office conditions. This position is located in Austin, Texas.

Employment Eligibility :

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers.

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
