Responsibilities

POSITION DUTIES :

• Perform highly specialized diagnostic procedures utilizing advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques.
• Receive patients, explain method of procedure and safety precautions, start IVs as required, position patients, and counsel patients regarding the risks / benefits of the procedure.
• Establish and oversee the maintenance of a quality control program in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Section.
• Responsible for all major and minor equipment held in the MRI Section.
• Train subordinates in performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) :

Radiology Certification : Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75.

Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field.

Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes performing diagnostic radiologic examinations, assisting with magnetic resonance imaging, and performing quality assurance.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade / level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education : Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as : Diagnostic Radiology / Radiography.

Combination of Education and Experience : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
