Job Description :
Microchip has an opportunity for an Engineer I-Environmental / Safety (Safety / Industrial Hygiene Engineer I) in the Environmental Health and Safety department at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon.
This position will be directly involved in the coordination and performance of various safety and industrial hygiene functions critical to the operation and support of the facility.
They will partner with Facilities, Manufacturing, Engineering, Human Resources and other organizations to provide technical support and coordination of overall health and safety compliance, implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, and training consistent with Microchip policies and guiding values.
They will maintain effective relationships with employees, contractors, management, community representatives and regulators.
The essential functions of the job include assisting senior Safety personnel with day-to-day tasks, collection and analysis of data including working cooperatively with other departments to collect data and presentation of findings.
To facilitate their timely development as a functional member of Fab 4 EHS, and to ensure that they are effectively share the department workload and assist in streamlining administrative processes, the preferred candidate will have a technical education / background in safety, occupational health, and / or industrial hygiene.
Essential Functions
Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements and the effective interpretation of federal and state regulatory requirements including OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA, GHS
Participation in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) including providing assistance training ERT / MERT members and ensuring qualification requirements are met
Assist inspecting and managing SCBA equipment for ERT
Assist stocking spill stations, ERT supplies, first aid kits, and LOTO carts
Review existing programs for improvements or additions to production or process systems including tool installs, new chemical acquisition evaluation, facilities maintenance and safety work plans
Function as a resource for programs and processes ensuring compliance with federal, state, county, city and corporate reporting requirements
Assist with inspections and prioritizing and implementing corrective action to address audit findings
Assist in coordination of reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of safety and health incidents as well as workplace injuries and illnesses
Interface with engineers, contractors and a variety of facility personnel on a daily basis to provide guidance and technical support
Help perform incident investigations to determine root cause(s) and implement corrective actions in a team environment
Work with project teams on hazard identification, evaluation and control and appropriate risk assessments and mitigation
Actively engage in site operations to proactively understand site operations and prevent safety related issues
Participate in monthly safety committee meetings
Manage safety / IH equipment and supplies
Assist with work permits processing for confined space, electrical, hot work, etc.
Understand and interpret chemical safety data sheets (SDS)
Requirements / Qualifications :
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or Science discipline, including environmental science, chemical engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering or biology
0-2 years of experience
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and codes impacting facilities relative to 0-2 years of experience
Basic knowledge of chemistry

Ability to pass a Physical and Respirator Fit Test
Flexible work schedule for occasional training and project support with the night shift in a facility that operates 24 / 7
