Beyond the required education and experience, instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success.

Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.

This is an application pool posting for 2024 2025. The assigned location for this position is at the Lane Community College’s main campus located in Eugene, Oregon.

  • The Part-time Faculty includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability and paid sick leave.

Part-time faculty may be eligible for full contracted benefits after meeting certain criteria.

Grant Statement : Working Schedule :

  • Classes are assigned by the Division Dean based on need, enrollment, and availability of contracted and / or senior part-time faculty.
  • Most manufacturing classes are from 8 : 00 AM -6 : 00 PM Tuesday through Thursday (subject to change).

  • Associate of Applied Science in Manufacturing Technology or related field
  • Equivalent education and professional field experience appropriate to the position.

Required Experience :

Two (2) years of experience in machining or a related field.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education

Bachelors in Manufacturing Technology or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in CAM.
  • Teaching experience or industrial training experience.

Position Purpose : The Manufacturing Technology Program Part-time Faculty position will be responsible for Manufacturing related training courses.

The primary responsibility of the manufacturing instructor is to provide quality teaching in a full range of community college manufacturing courses.

Instructors are needed for one or more of the following areas : CNC Setup and Operation, CNC Programming, CNC Projects, Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Solid Modeling, CAM, Safety and Basic Shop Practice, Shop Measurement, Coordinate System, and Metal Cutting Basics.

All of these classes currently include remote and / or online learning while presenting innovative lectures and lab components.

The accompanying instruction, depending on the class, may be delivered in several formats which include both traditional lectures and online presentations.

Program desired qualities include a relatively diverse background with a mix of teaching and project management experience as well as hands-on experience within the manufacturing industry.

Essential Functions : Support student learning through activities that include :

  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
  • Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
  • Maintain and post teaching schedule, regular meetings and office hours
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified in the
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and / or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students
  • Other duties as assigned

Curriculum Delivery

  • Provide high-quality classroom instruction
  • Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
  • Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
  • Confer with students on course materials
  • Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats
  • Plan, write, and administer Manufacturing curricula to include instruction in the varied learning environments, such as in-person, online, remote, and hybrid formats
  • Provide quality and engaging instruction in all delivery methods and formats within Manufacturing Technology Program
  • Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, and in accordance with course objectives and program learning outcomes
  • Develop and maintain curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes
  • Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required.
  • Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and college safety standards and practices
  • Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes
  • Set up and prepare class / lab materials prior to the start of class to ensure timeliness and student success in the classroom and the lab spaces

Online Teaching and Student Support

  • Expect to make use of the Learning Management System (LMS) to publish and update content, post grades and promote student engagement among students with course content
  • Use multiple modes of communication tools including online publishing, audio, and video tools
  • Be present within the online course to interact with students, help guide asynchronous discussions and provide opportunities for students’ voices to be heard within the online course
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours
  • Ensure that all materials created are accessible and meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Post student attendance, grades, and course syllabus to the college LMS in accordance with college timelines
  • Use current best practices and pedagogies for teaching online including the application of online course quality frameworks for clearly providing course learning objectives to students, while consistently setting clear weekly and term-long expectations for work and assessment

Supervision Statement :

  • Faculty report to a Department or division dean, and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college : .

Physical Demands / Working Environment : Coordinate fine and gross motor movements. Coordinate hand / eye movements. Maintain balance from any position.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of & Skill in

  • Knowledge of the differences among learning styles, current advances in teaching methods and uses of technology in education, and the ability to integrate these elements into curricula and teaching methods.
  • Current skills in effective teaching methods and knowledge related to a broad range of metal manufacturing technologies including machine operation (manual and CNC programming), maintenance, and manual milling skills.
  • Skills in teaching individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds and varying needs.
