Title : Principal Formulation Scientist
Location : Lancaster, SC, USA
Salary : $110k - $150k, with bonus potential up to 12% of YTD earnings (discretionary)
Hours : Monday - Friday, 8 : 30am 5pm (flexibility for off-shifts required)

Summary :
- Design and execute experimental formulations to develop scientifically sound processes for new and existing products.
- The ideal candidate will have a background in pet food, culinary, or food science, with expertise in soft chews, powders, liquids, and formulation of various food components.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Develop formulations for veterinary and consumer nutritional and pharmaceutical solid dose products, soft chews, powders, and liquids.
- Assist in sourcing excipients or active ingredients for formulations.
- Collaborate with the product development team to create and optimize formulas based on objectives.
- Produce prototypes and trial batches in compliance with established procedures.
- Work with operations to scale up formulations and optimize existing products.
- Design and conduct studies to support prototype development and product evaluations.
- Apply knowledge of analytical methods and tests, including microbiological methods.
- Analyze new ingredients for compatibility with existing formulations.
- Develop familiarity with semi-moist product formulation and manufacturing.
- Evaluate potential ingredients and formulas for manufacturability.
- Maintain accurate records of product development activities, including formulas and pilot batch records.
- Stay informed of new developments in ingredients, dosage forms, and related topics, and share insights with the team.
- Evaluate equipment requirements for pilot-scale production.
- Lead and mentor Formulation Technicians, providing technical direction and feedback.
- Perform other duties as required to meet company objectives and communicate effectively with other departments.
Minimum Requirements :
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in solid dosage formulation, food scale-up, and troubleshooting of dietary supplements or pharmaceutical products.
- 3+ years of experience with pet product formulation or flavor systems.
- Strong background in food science, including knowledge of fat, protein, sugars, and starches.
Education and Experience :
- BS / BA in Chemistry, Food Science, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
- Preferred Doctoral degree in Chemistry / Biochemistry, Nutrition, PharmD, or related life sciences.
