ASSOCIATE VP, DATA SCIENCE

The Associate VP, Data Science uses mathematics, statistics, machine learning, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions.

The Associate VP, Data Science requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate throughout the enterprise.

The AVP of Data Science will lead a team of senior data scientists to develop data science capabilities that are not currently operationalized at Humana.

They will also add capabilities to Humana's collective data science tool set that have the potential for high value creation and re-use across multiple use cases.

They must be very selective about which projects the team pursues. Project selection needs to be a combination of inside-out (understanding business needs) and outside-in (how is technology progressing) to chart a course that will make the biggest impact for Humana.

The team must build tools that Humana data scientists and engineers will use and tools that will create the most value.

A successful candidate will have in-depth understanding of machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI techniques.

This role is responsible to stay abreast of emerging technology and be able to use that knowledge to both craft a strategy and educate others on the application and impact of technology.

Implementing technical solutions in large companies involves much more than the development of the technology, but also requires navigation of a challenging array of non-technical requirements and expectations.

This leader should be able to advise teams, from their past experience, to make choices which reduce risk and increase the probability of successful technology delivery.

The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills. In this role they will be called upon to teach new skills to hundreds of data scientists and engineers, they must listen for the unstated needs of fellow business leaders, and you must craft plans to win over the hearts and minds of end users.

Required Qualifications

• Requires at least a Bachelor's Degree
• 10 or more years of industry experience
• 8 or more years of management experience
• Possesses a solid understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across departments
• Experienced in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis
• Experience building solutions with machine learning models to support business strategy
• Track record of many multi-million project implementations in an industry setting
• Experienced in identifying and resolving complex technical and operational problems within departments
• Experienced in making decisions on highly complex issues that have significant impact on the enterprise's financial and business operations
• Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Master or Doctorate Degree in science or engineering
• Healthcare Experience

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting.

The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$204,400 - $281,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and / or individual performance.
