Summary :
This NJROTC teaching position is part of the Career and Technical Education department at South Kitsap High School and requires proof of NJROTC.
Candidates must be able to verify the experience aligned with OSPI’s CTE certification requirements. SKHS is a four-year comprehensive program that operates on a semester system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Participates as a department and school team member with responsibility for the education of assigned students;
- Modifies instructional programs to meet individual student needs;
- Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to achieve required academic learning standards in the Career and Technical curriculum areas;
- Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior;
- Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;
- Maintains student records, daily grades, essential learnings data, cumulative records, orders, and inventory, in a timely and orderly fashion.
- Reports student progress to parents regularly;
- Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs, and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology;
- Participates in guidance discussions with students to provide appropriate programs for their educational level;
- Participates in Career and Technical Education program responsibilities;
- Participates in leadership of Career and Technical Student Organization;
- Participates in team and individual instructional planning, which includes writing daily lesson plans;
- Preparation of NJROTC program reports and presentations;
- Participates in staff meetings, planning events, and department / unit meetings;
- Participates in the total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities;
- Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

Minimum Requirements :
- Valid Washington State Conditional Teaching Certificate for the NJROTC program;
- Proof of NJROTC Instructor (NSTC) Certification as issued by the United States Government;
- Valid Drivers License with a good driving record. Drivers abstract may be requested;
- Retired Navy, Marine Corps., or Coast Guard Commissioned Officer, (W-2 through 0-6) who have served a minimum of twenty (20) years active duty or have retired under the Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA);
- Small boat and sailing experience preferred- This position supports a 44Ft Sailboat-Sailing program ;
- Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience in a secondary level program is required;
- Willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on developing reading and writing skills for all students;
- Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods by participating in classes, workshops, in-services, peer coaching, reading, etc.;
- Demonstrated knowledge of new technology and an ability to incorporate into instructional programs;
- Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals;
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with (and safe environment for) students, self, and others;
- Code V280300 or ability to verify 6000 hours work experience and complete CTE certification program.
Other Requirements and Information :
Position calendar : Instructor will teach consistent with the 185 day certificated calendar established for students with additional time required to be consistent with program requirements.
Actual calendar is 248 days + 12 Holidays
