Employee Relations Specialist - 131 West 25th Street

Job Summary :

The Employee Relations Specialist will assist with labor relations and human resources matters, gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for contract and policy development, investigations, and negotiations.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

Under the direction of the Director of Labor & Employee Relations, tasks and duties will include, but will not be limited to :

  • Oversight of the Work Rules for Absenteeism and Tardiness.
  • Collaborate with the program leadership to maintain the attendance points tracker; proper escalation to Director of Labor & Employee Relations on the coordination and documentation of penalties as needed.
  • Monitor and track unreported absences, partnering with program leadership, investigating, confirming time & attendance records, drafting recommendations and processing as needed.
  • Research patterns of excessive absenteeism, conducting investigations, verifying documents, drafting recommendations and processing as needed.
  • Assists with the administration and record keeping of the agency's disciplinary systems and procedures (i.e., grievances, arbitration, time and attendance, progressive discipline, etc.
  • maintaining labor and employee relations records as needed;
  • Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements;

refers complex matters to appropriate management staff.

Assists with the initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns;

informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required.

  • Assists with recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and promotion particularly as related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, and diversity initiatives.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR and contract negotiations.

Education and Experience :

  • BA and / or background in labor & employee relations required.
  • Preference for a degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Preference for 1 year of professional human resource administration and / or experience in data management and / or administrative filing.
  • Vaccination preferred but not required.

HOURS :

Full-time 37.5 hours per week

Monday-Friday 9am-5 : 30pm
