Position Summary
The research manager for the institute’s Center for the Middle East (CME) oversees the operations of the center and provides support for CME research publications, events, communications, human resources, and financial processing.
This position also coordinates the research budget and financial operations of the center in coordination with the institute’s finance office, including annual budget planning, purchasing and reimbursement processes for the CME research team.
The CME research manager is also responsible for post-award accounting of CME grants and contracts, including award review, monitoring expenditures for compliance, invoicing, reconciliations, reporting and grant closeout.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule within Harris County and surrounding counties for up to 2 days, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in International Affairs, International Development, Global Affairs or related field
- One (1) year of experience as Project Coordinator or Program Manager in the field of international affairs.
- The one (1) year of experience as Project Coordinator or Program Manager in the field of international affairs must include experience with each of the following : Working with multiple researchers or principal investigators with daily administrative research activities including project development, data collection, data analysis, reporting and outreach.
Drafting and submitting grant proposals related to Middle East research. Post-award accounting for sponsored research projects, including award review, monitoring expenditures for compliance, invoicing, reconciliations, reporting and grant closeout.
Essential Functions
- Administer research operations for the Baker Institute Center for the Middle East (CME), ensuring efficient, effective and productive handling of daily activities including project development, data collection, data analysis, reporting and outreach.
- Manage research collaborations and partnerships with other universities and research institutions.
- Conduct research and produce academic and policy publications on topics related to the Middle East.
- Maintain CME budget and financial operations in coordination with the institute’s finance office, including annual budget planning, financial reporting, purchasing and reimbursement processes for the CME research team.
- Help drive research project proposals to support CME fellows and scholars in coordination with the institute’s grant specialist.
- Plan and implement CME events in coordination with institute’s events office, including drafting materials, facilitating speaker invitations, arranging travel and honorariums, selecting event vendors, and assisting the execution of workshops, lectures and conferences.
- Produce CME-branded print and digital communications, including dissemination of research findings, website content and promotional materials.
