Job Description
Under limited supervision, provides an advanced level of comprehensive health care to a specific patient population in collaboration with medical staff.
Follow established applicable nursing and medical standards, procedures and practices, and give specific patient care directions to nursing and other support staff.
Patients served include teens and adults. Assumes responsibility for a caseload of obstetrical and gynecological patients selected according to midwifery practice guidelines.
Manages normal labor and delivery; assesses maternal and fetal status; identifies deviations from normal status; and manages episiotomy and perineal repairs.
Manages postpartum course, including instructions, referrals and follow-up. Identifies, manages, and consults for obstetrical emergencies.
1. Demonstrates organizational competencies per standard.
2. Conducts comprehensive or episodic assessment of patients to include intrapartum, and postpartum care in conjunction with the Obstetrical Team.
Individualizes clinical pathway.
3. Establishes appropriate medical diagnosis for acute, chronic, or episodic health problems.
4. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and invasive procedures.
5. Utilizing data obtained from history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and diagnostic procedures, develops and implements individualized care plan with patient / family based on diagnosis, patient care / age-specific needs and patient outcomes.
6. Prescribes and treats health needs of patients; performs treatment / procedures as indicated.
7. Performs related duties as assigned.
8. Evaluates pharmacotherapeutic and non-pharmacological regimens and prescribes appropriate as authorized.
9. Collects pertinent data needed for problem identification and intervention on initial contact in a timely manner.
10. Reviews charts and elicits information necessary for ongoing patient monitoring, screening, treatment, education and counseling.
11. Performs initial physical exams, and procedures skillfully and completes documentation. Prescribes medication / treatments according to delineated privileges.
12. Identifies health problems and consults, transfers, or co-manages patients with the collaborating physician in a timely manner.
13. Maintains appropriate patient records.
a. Documents compliance with and response to therapies and clinical treatments
b. Documents treatment plans, historical and physical findings, consults, teaching and counseling in compliance with hospital and clinical standards,
c. Competes intrapartum medical records and other obligations before patient transfer to the post-partum unit.
d. Initiates post-partum rounds and post-partum kardex.
e. Updates the daily delivery log, initiates and updates logs in the offices.
14. Performs post-partum rounds.
Qualifications
- Advanced professional. Master's degree in nursing or related field.
- Completion of a graduate level Midwifery Program.
- Current Maryland license in good standing as a Nurse Midwife
- Certified Nurse Midwife by the American College of Nurse Midwives
- Required less than one-year applicable experience, preferred 1 3 years.
- Two years of full scope practice midwifery is preferred.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- NPI number, DEA and CDS required.
- BLS required
