This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Responsibilities include management of bridge and / or tunnel projects and contracts including but not limited to coordination with local stakeholders and local / state / federal agencies and other permitting agencies.
- Responding to site conditions of projects; design and project document review and processing; and coordination with other departments and programs.
- Responsibilities may also include the need to access tunnels and bridges within Chicago.
Additional duties may be required for this position.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a directly related field of engineering supplemented by two years of progressively responsible Civil Engineering experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.
NOTE : A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS : This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a writing exercise.
The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
The interviewed bidders possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following :
- Previous work experience as a Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, or Design Engineer on major roadway or bridge projects.
- Proficiency in using construction management software to help manage construction projects.
- Previous work experience on design or construction projects funded by IDOT / FHWA.
- Knowledge of IDOT’s documentation and design / construction standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
