Summary
Provide assistance, encouragement and support to individuals as they learn job functions and appropriate behaviors for maintaining employment.
A variety of work experience and knowledge of the current job market is necessary. Job Coaches will also help educate employers on the best methods of communication and support to help the individual be successful in their job.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
To be successful in this position, candidates need to be able to demonstrate the following :
The ability to develop a good relationship with not only the consumer but also with the employer by keeping them apprised to the consumer’s progress in learning their job.
Work with the employer to develop natural supports for the consumer and recommend any accommodations needed for the consumer to be successful on the job.
Be enthusiastic to work with individuals with disabilities ranging from developmental and learning disorders, behavioral health, blind and low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, physical and medical.
Creativity to construct unique solutions to assist the consumer in learning the job.
Possess a variety of work experience and knowledge of the current job market is necessary.
Exhibit strong writing skills while documenting the consumer’s progress in learning their job task and / or weaknesses on the job.
Meet deadlines with completing written reports.
Attend regular staff meetings with consumer and display a strong consumer advocacy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, while maintaining the ability to learn program specific software.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum of High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Knowledge of competitive employment work environments, policies and procedures.
Prior experience working with a diverse population is preferred, but not required.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well with a broad spectrum of people, including consumers, employers and employees.
Exhibit excellent customer service, organizational, writing, and reading skills.
