Bemana is hiring a Safety & Environmental Manager in the greater New Orleans areafor a full-service shipyard and repair facility.

As the Safety-Environmental Manager, you’ll focus on ensuring that customer’s needs are met in the safest, most environmentally sound and efficient manner possible.
Additionally, you’ll be responsible for the health, safety and environmental protection of employees, contractors, visitors, and the shipyard as a whole;
as well as maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations / laws.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Investigate incidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Recommend measures to help protect against potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Inspect / evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Develop or maintain hygiene programs, (continuous atmosphere monitoring, noise and ventilation surveys, asbestos management plans, etc.)
- Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
- Prepare, maintain, and analyze environmental and safety reports.
- Be the first responder for safety and environmental incidences.
- Conduct safety training and education programs.
- Investigate health-related complaints and inspect facilities to ensure that they comply with public health legislation and regulations.
- Collaborate with engineers or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
- Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
- Identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic / magnetic form.
- Schedule and monitor employee physicals and drug testing, ensuring compliance.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
- 5+ years safety experience or safety related degree
- 5 years shipyard experience preferred
- OSHA 40
- HAZMAT and HAZWOPER 40 / 40
- CPR and First Aid current certification
- Current valid driver’s license
- Competent Person certification
