Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Director of Strategy & Operations to join the Office of the CEO. In this role you will be a critical business partner to our CEO in managing efficient and effective business operations, and leading key strategic initiatives that are critical for the business.

The Director of Strategy and Operations is a strategic business partner to the CEO across all areas of the business. This role is a unique opportunity to gain a front-row seat to high-growth leadership and building a company.

This person must balance strong critical thinking, deep understanding of core startup functions, top notch cross-functional partnership skills, know how to get things done despite diffuse ownership, and above all a desire to support the CEO and accomplish his priorities (both long-term and more immediate needs).

Your role

  • Set the CEO up for day-to-day success - you know how the CEO works best so can proactively anticipate their needs and ensure high-quality outputs
  • Ensure the CEO's and larger Handshake's success in meetings and other forums through prep work with CEO
  • Partner closely with C-Suite leaders and cross-functional teams to design and manage business-critical initiatives and operations
  • Partner closely with key leaders on Board narrative, operations, and relationships
  • Provide thought partnership to the CEO on the company's strategic direction and the executive leadership team's priorities, including strategy development, evaluation of new ideas and opportunities, and conducting analysis and research to support key decisions
  • Establish key company systems and operating processes that help us scale effectively, including leadership operations and management systems
  • Partner closely with CHRO to drive overall organizational structure and strategy

Your experience

  • 10-15 years of experience across management consulting, business strategy, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, and / or strategy & operations at a technology startup
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicator, with strong executive presence
  • Highly analytical and comfortable with data
  • Strategic thinker with ability to speak intelligently and with insight about different business models, industries, technology trends
  • Excel at working through influence, winning the trust of senior executives and cross-functional counterparts, effectively moving initiatives forward with multiple-stakeholders
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong bias to action and ability to work both quickly and to a high quality in ambiguous environment with a lot of change
  • Highly collaborative, not afraid to roll up their sleeves to do what's necessary to make the team successful

  • MBA from selective business program
  • Fluent with SQL and data analysis and visualization tools

Compensation range

$209,000 - $246,000

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies.

In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

  • 401k Match : Handshake offers a dollar-for-dollar match on 1% of deferred salary, up to a maximum of $1,200 per year.
  • All full-time US-based Handshakers are eligible for our flexible time off policy to get out and see the world. In addition, we offer 8 standardized holidays, and 2 additional days of flexible holiday time off.

Lastly, we have a Winter #ShakeBreak, a one-week period of Collective Time Off.

Family support : We partner with Milk Stork to provide comprehensive 100% employer-sponsored lactation support to traveling parents and guardians.

Pension Scheme : Handshake will provide you with a workplace pension, where you will make contributions based on 5% of your salary.

Handshake will pay the equivalent of 3% towards your pension plan, subject to qualifying earnings limits.

  • Up to 25 days of vacation to encourage people to reset, recharge, and refresh, in addition to 8 bank holidays throughout the year.
