Large Saw Operator- 2nd Shift (up to $21.00 per hour) 2 : 00 P.M. to 10 : 30 P.M

Location : Carol Stream

Position Type : Full-Time

Pay Rate : $21 hr

Job Summary :

The Large Saw Operator is responsible for setting up and operating band saw machines, managing material handling with overhead cranes and forklifts, and performing routine equipment maintenance.

The role demands precision, adherence to safety standards, and effective coordination to ensure smooth operations and high-quality outcomes in our steel manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities :

Band Saw Operation :

• Set up and operate band saw machines to cut metal stock pieces to specified dimensions.
• Adjust machine controls for speed, feed rate, and blade tension to meet operational requirements.
• Install and adjust saw blades, set cutting speeds, and configure blade angles using appropriate tools.
• Use steel rules and wrenches to set stops and guides for precise cuts.
• Position and secure stock against stops or in feeding devices; start coolant flow to the cutting area.
• Monitor machine operation, replace defective blades or wheels as needed, and ensure safe and productive operation.
• Verify dimensions of finished workpieces with measuring tools such as calipers and measuring tapes.
• Safeguard equipment from damage and ensure proper usage.

Material Handling :

• Operate overhead magnet cranes to move materials over 35 lbs. while adhering to all safety standards and procedures.
• Pull and transfer correct stock from inventory to machines, ensuring materials are staged appropriately for cutting.
• Use forklifts to move and position materials efficiently and safely.

Equipment Maintenance :

• Clean and perform light day-to-day maintenance on operated equipment.
• Notify Maintenance Technicians of any required repairs or maintenance needs.
• Report any potential safety concerns or equipment issues to management promptly.

Forklift Operation :

Operate forklifts or side loaders to move materials in accordance with safety standards and procedures.

Documentation and Paperwork :

• Accurately complete and process all necessary worksheets and orders.
• Confirm and enter order information into the computer system.
• Label materials correctly and return them to their designated storage locations.

Qualifications :

Education : High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience : Previous experience operating band saw machines, overhead cranes, and forklifts preferred. Experience in a steel or manufacturing environment is a plus.

Skills :

• Proficiency in operating band saw machines and material handling equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measurements.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in cutting and measuring.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.

Physical Requirements :

• Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Capability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
• Comfort with working in an industrial environment with exposure to noise and dust.
