Brooks & Nelson’s client seeks a Principal Processing Engineer .

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Principal Processing Engineer, you will be responsible for for providing leadership and process engineering technical expertise through the project development life cycle.

You will work closely with multiple disciplines to advance projects to the next level, investigating and implementing the best practice for project execution strategy, overseeing surface rock management, grinding and flotation, leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning, ancillary plant services, reagent and power consumption, tailings management, paste production and distribution, and overall site water management and treatment.

You will also review feedback to engineering consultants and provide contractor management. Additionally, you may need to provide support to business development, environmental and permitting support, and corporate social responsibility.

A key component of the role is supporting the SVP of mine development in project execution strategy.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety

Supports all functions in the development of appropriate safety policies, protocols, standard operating procedures (SOP), and job hazard assessments (JHA).

  • Maintain work areas and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), in a neat, and tidy condition and in good working order.
  • Wear PPE appropriate for the nature of work being performed at all times.
  • Attends daily toolbox meetings and safety and operational planning sessions with site management.
  • Support appropriate health and safety personnel in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Act as a representative of the company as necessary or appropriate for any relevant agency inspections and interactions.

Processing

  • Oversee the completion of the technical studies, ensuring key metallurgical, financial, and environmental parameters are adhered to.
  • Develop and oversee testwork programs that address the data gaps and investigate recommendations.
  • Facilitate appropriate third-party reviews and manage subject matter experts and technical advisors to continue to derisk projects and to identify opportunities for value creation.
  • Organize and manage value engineering studies, finalizing trade-off studies, metallurgical optimization, and technology alternatives in advance of commencing basic and detailed engineering.
  • Facilitate the review and selection of appropriate engineering firms to develop basic and detailed engineering for surface infrastructure, such as the process plant, the tailings management facility, the paste plant, the water treatment facilities, and other plant infrastructure.
  • Lead the review of process design, materials handling, logistics, equipment selection, constructability, maintainability, and operability of accountable areas during the basic and detailed engineering design phase of the project.
  • Develop and maintain an outreach program with key equipment and service vendors to facilitate equipment procurement and investigate process island synergies.
  • On commencement of construction, ensure that all process plant, mechanical, materials handling and related works untaken by contractors are in accordance with the reviewed design criteria and technical parameters;

and provide support to the owners civil / structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers on all process engineering activities associates with the implementation of metallurgical, tailings management, and paste production processes.

Develop, track, and report on departmental operating budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in chemical / process / metallurgical engineering or related field
  • Licensed professional engineer or otherwise registered as a Qualified Person
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of operational underground hard rock process / engineering / planning experience
  • Significant experience with mass and water balance software such as Metsim and Goldsim
  • Experience with Deswik.Blend, or similar production planning software for generating short-term, mid-term, and long-term reagent consumption and production schedules
  • Detailed knowledge of industry standards such as JORC, CIM or SME guidelines and compliance with public disclosure regulations
  • Mine Rescue experience, MSHA safety requirements, supervisory tickets / experience are an asset
  • Strong understanding of cost control, cost tracking and KPI metrics and utilizations
  • Solid background in processing methods and safe plant practices;
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience in writing RFP, technical reports, and general project correspondence
  • Ability to lead, direct and work cooperatively
  • Willingness to travel
