Position overview

We are looking for an experienced Automotive OBD and Electric Architecture Expert to lead the development and implementation of On-Board Diagnostics systems and electric architectures for our next-generation vehicles.

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of automotive diagnostics standards, protocols, and regulations, as well as expertise in designing and integrating electric architectures for advanced vehicle functionalities.

Roles & responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) systems for compliance with regulatory requirements, including OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics II) standards and emissions regulations (e.

g., OBD mandates by EPA and CARB).

  • Define and document OBD diagnostic strategies, fault detection and isolation (FDI) algorithms, and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) generation rules for various vehicle subsystems, including powertrain, chassis, and body electronics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, and compliance specialists, to integrate OBD functionalities into vehicle electronic control units (ECUs) and embedded software.
  • Conduct OBD system validation and verification activities, including simulation, testing, and analysis, to ensure accurate and reliable diagnostic performance under various operating conditions and environmental factors.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in automotive OBD technologies, standards, and regulations, and provide technical expertise and guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and optimization of electric architectures for vehicle systems, including power distribution, energy management, and communication networks, to support advanced features such as electrification, connectivity, and autonomous driving.
  • Define and document electric architecture requirements, specifications, and interfaces, and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.

g., ISO 26262 for functional safety) and cybersecurity principles.

  • Collaborate with vehicle system architects, hardware designers, and software developers to integrate electric architectures into vehicle platforms, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and robustness.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for OBD-related issues during vehicle development, production, and aftermarket service, and participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions as needed.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers on automotive OBD and electric architecture concepts, methodologies, and best practices.
