Description
Sapphire Gas Solutions, a private equity backed energy transition and natural gas solutions company, is looking for business analysts to report directly to the executive vice presidents of Sapphire's three operating business units (field services, energy management, and logistics services).
This position is an excellent fit for candidates with a strong finance or accounting background that want to get deeply involved in the operations of the business and to gain exposure to the private equity space.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Perform monthly and quarterly financial analytics, including high-level business line profitability, as well as project or service line profitability.
- Manage business unit specific customer, supplier, and lease contracts.
- Work with operations leadership and finance to analyze individual project profitability at a detailed level and deliver solutions to improve financial results through new pricing strategies or operational efficiencies.
- Create operational reporting tools and dashboards to report on business unit key performance indicators.
- Prepare monthly operational and financial reporting packages for business reviews and executive level reporting.
- Work as a liaison between finance / accounting, operations, and executive leadership to ensure business process compliance as well as timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives as assigned by executive leadership.
- Prepare business cases for new capital expenditures and report on returns and paybacks for those investments.
- Evaluate impact of lease vs. own strategies on project profitability and cash flow.
- Identify business process and internal control gaps, and work with finance / accounting and executive leadership to implement solutions addressing those gaps.
- Perform routine reviews / audits of customer invoices to ensure contract compliance, completeness, and accuracy.
- Perform monthly budget vs. actuals analysis and draft variance explanations for executive level review.
- Serve as the business unit liaison between various support departments (HSE, Accounting, People Operations) on implementing and improving workflows through company systems / programs.
- Ensure month-end closing processes impacting the business unit are completed timely and mitigate risks of unbilled revenue and out of period expenses.
- Create presentations for monthly and quarterly business unit reviews with executive leadership, as well material for quarterly board of director meetings.
Qualifications include, but are not limited to :
- Candidates should have a background in finance or accounting, a CPA or MBA is a plus.
- Must demonstrate strong financial analytical skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with a specific emphasis in Excel (as a financial analytics tool) and PowerPoint (for presentations and reporting).
- Must have strong business process knowledge and understanding of internal controls.
- Must understand how various pieces of the business fit into the bigger picture.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Must be comfortable interacting with customers, suppliers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be willing to travel for project site visits and customer meetings.
- Will be expected to quickly learn all aspects of the business unit under the guidance of the business unit executive including, but not limited to, customer and supplier contracts, business unit cost drivers, project pricing structures, and workflows through company systems.
