Job Summary

Under general direction from a designated supervisor and as prescribed by a university-sponsored program, to perform professional teaching duties in a university- or community-operated daycare center, kindergarten, elementary, or high school.

Job Description

  • Participate in the recruitment and enrollment of eligible children and families for the Dr. David Kanis Center and comply with all recruitment activities, plans, and policies as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Participate in the planning process and development of program policies and plans.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences and activities in language, math, science, gross motor, fine motor, and social / emotional development.
  • Develop Lesson Plans that include individualized activities for children and align with Early Learning Standards.
  • Develop individualized activities to support a child's IEP (Individualized Education Plan).
  • Always ensures the safety and supervision of children by sight, sound, and counting, during indoor and outdoor activities, including field trips.
  • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of children with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities.
  • Provide ongoing observation and authentic assessment of children and maintain documentation of each child's progress and growth using adopted assessment tools.
  • Document classroom observations for the purpose of collecting data for child outcome assessments.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction designed to meet individual needs of children in all areas of development.
  • Participate in the program self-assessment and community needs process.
  • Schedule and plan home visits and parent / teacher conferences.
  • Sit and eat with children in Family Style Meal setting and assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices.
  • Document and maintain accurate daily attendance and food count.
  • Document and maintain daily health and safety checklists.
  • In collaboration with each child's parent or guardian, complete a developmental screening within forty-five (45) calendar days of a child's enrollment.
  • Complete all required documentation on each child per the Head Start Performance Standards at the 30-day, 45 days, timeline, etc.

according to the enrollment date of each individual child.

  • Ensure that all required documentation is entered into the COPA data entry system and ensure that all contact notes are entered and updated within 24 hours of contact with families.
  • Facilitate opportunities for teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips to obtain the maximum benefit from their efforts.
  • Develop activities for parents that promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their children, ensure that parents understand the curriculum and age-appropriate expectations for learning and development.
  • Work collaboratively with the family support worker to maintain good parent engagement..
  • Communicate regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, newsletters, and individual parent conferences.
  • Provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable child behavior, attitudes, and social skills.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of children's work.
  • Assisting children with health and hygiene practices, bathroom routines, including diaper changing, tooth brushing, hand washing, and all other necessary health and safety standards.
  • Submit weekly reports / calendars as required.
  • Enter assessment data in TS Gold and enter contact notes and other required documents in the child data entry system as required.
  • Complete and enter time records in web time for payroll as required.
  • Participate in development of program plans and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field with ECE coursework.
  • Professional Educator License (type 04) in Early Childhood. Alternatively a Illinois Gateway Level 5 ECE credential and working towards IL PEL with ECE endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years Head Start experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of pre-school children between 3-5 yrs.
  • Preferred Head Start experiences.
  • Meet all University and DCFS hiring requirements, including background check and Physical.
  • Follow all DCFS licensing guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in all required training and professional development opportunities.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum is desirable.
