The RN Shift Supervisor works under the direction of a clinician and is responsible for oversight of hospital staff, patient care, employees, and the facility.

Duties when working as House Supervisor include directing and conducting administrative functions in the absence of department manager.

Typical Schedule

Nights, 12-hour shifts, every third weekend, holiday rotation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current Wisconsin RN licensure or ability to obtain, required.
  • 1+ years’ experience as an Emergency Department RN, required.
  • 3+ years related experience in a hospital setting, preferred.
  • BLS certification, required.
  • ACLS certification (within 3 months of hire), required.
  • PALs or ENPC (within 3 months of hire), required.
  • TNCC (within 6 months of hire), required.
  • NRP (within 3 months of hire), required.

Responsibilities Include :

  • Ensures adequate staffing.
  • Assign nurses to patients.
  • Ensure nursing operational standards are met.
  • Provide reports on productivity, quality and customer service metrics.
  • Ensure all nurses follow policies and procedures.
  • Train new team members.
  • Evaluate nurses’ performance.
  • Inform family members about medical procedures and doctors’ instructions.
  • Handle complaints or other issues.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing psychological support to patients, family and friends.
  • Provides patient care as needed.

  • Ability to plan, direct, implement, and evaluate the nursing care delivered to a variety of patients.
  • Provide crucial conversations and feedback to staff based on performance.
  • Maintain the integrity of highly confidential business and patient information.
  • Display and promote high standards of ethical conduct and behaviors consistent with organizational standards.
  • Exhibit excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, continuous improvement, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of electronic medical records.
  • Ability to anticipate, understand, and manage patient expectations and provide consistent delivery of services.
  • Clearly and effectively convey information to patients.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and handle multiple tasks / projects concurrently.
  • Ability to consistently carry out job responsibilities, able to acknowledge when commitments are not met, and take appropriate steps to fulfill responsibility.
  • Ability to analyze, identify, and solve problems while using sound judgment.
