Are you committed to enhancing the health and well-being of families and communities? South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a dynamic Family and Community Health Extension Associate to lead our Healthy Food, Families, & Communities initiative.

In this vital role, you will deliver research-based information, resources, programming, and support, while building strong relationships with stakeholder groups to advance the vision of SDSU Extension.

Join us in making a meaningful impact on the health of our communities. This position is located in Rapid City, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

As the outreach arm of our state's land grant, South Dakota State University, SDSU Extension provides farmers, ranchers, agri-business people, communities, families, and youth with research-based information they need to succeed.

SDSU Extension meets the changing needs of South Dakotans with progressive outreach services, ranging from one-on-one interaction and forums to 24 / 7 online access through our website, extension.

sdstate.edu. SDSU Extension organizes program outreach across 4 program areas : Agriculture and Natural Resources, Food & Families, Community Vitality, and 4-H Youth Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop relationships with all pertinent stakeholders and / or groups on emerging issues related to food, food production, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Recruit and utilize volunteers to enhance educational outreach.
  • Organize and facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Healthy Families and Communities project. Work with state office to ensure that programs are occurring, resources are available, data is managed.

Provide support and assistance where needed.

Project reporting on outcomes, presentations to public, stakeholders on project.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Community Development, Nutrition, Family & Consumer Sciences Education, Entrepreneurship, Horticulture, Human Services, or other closely related field by date of application;
  • At least 1 year of experience in an above-mentioned discipline
  • Knowledge of planning programs that deal with food production, school & community gardens, nutrition, and physical activity; and
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience working with Native American communities.
