JOB GOAL :

The goal of academic advising is to assist students in their growth and development by constructing meaningful educational plans which are compatible with their life goals.

It is a continuous and consistent process which is built upon the basis of frequent, accumulated personal contacts between advisor and advisees.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Good working knowledge of technology software
  • Use data to inform practice, be equitable in time spent with students, and work system-wide to develop a college and career ready culture
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT : 228 Days; 11 Months

COMPENSATION : $21.77 - $25.68

BENEFITS : As per District policy

REPORTS TO : Principal

HOURS : 40 hours per week - Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

CLASSIFICATION : Hourly, Non-exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following :

  • Provide career and college entrance information and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselors; coordinate day-to-day operations and schedule activities, programs and speakers.
  • Conduct 1 : 1 meetings with students to create ECAP and set post-secondary goals.
  • Document results of career-related advising and counseling efforts and time.
  • Assist students and parents in understanding the college admission and financial aid processes by providing access to current, clear, and concise information concerning the wide-range of post-secondary educational opportunities available, entrance requirements, financial aid, curricular offering, costs, admission and financial aid deadlines, and the variety of early admission and early decision programs available.
  • Prepare career education and instructional materials for use by teachers and students; assist students in locating and using college / career information as needed for research, assignments and post-high school planning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of occupational and labor market information. Utilize information available from sources such as Department of Labor and other providers.
  • Mobilize resources to connect participants with relevant resources important for postsecondary success (SAT courses, college prep mentors, additional tutoring, school / placement visits, etc.).
  • Arrange dual / concurrent enrollment and Advanced Placement credits to prepare students for the rigor of postsecondary education.
  • Planning and preparation for college admissions tests, SAT and ACT.
  • Maintain current information on financial aid and scholarship applications.
  • Assist students in navigating the college search and application process
  • Follow up with students after graduation (e.g. calls, e-mails, coordinated Advisor outreach) to identify and problem-solve barriers to college matriculation
  • Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements of confidentiality regarding student and personnel information
  • Knowledge of : Career and occupational resources, trends, and opportunities; college admission requirements, financial aid requirements, and training necessary for future careers;
