Job Summary

The City of Beverly Hills is offering $20,000 Signing Bonus

for qualified lateral police officers.

Disaster Service Workers

All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).

Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of :

Organization and operations of a Police Department.

Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations including laws governing the apprehension, arrest, and custody of person accused of felonies, misdemeanors, and infractions.

Modern methods, procedures, and techniques used in providing the full range of law enforcement and crime prevention services and activities including investigation and identification, patrol, traffic control, juvenile procedures, record keeping, search and seizure, care and custody of persons and property, emergency management and the Incident Command System, terrorism and hazard material awareness, and crime prevention.

Care, maintenance, and operation of firearms and other modern police equipment.

Principles and practices of data collection and analysis.

Methods and techniques of report preparation and writing including English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Principles and practices used in crime scene management, forensics, the identification, collection, preservation, and presentation of evidence.

Techniques and applications of conflict resolution to include de-escalation, self-defense, and proper use of force.

Methods and techniques used in interviewing witnesses, victims, or persons suspected of criminal activity.

Investigative techniques, procedures, and sources of information.

Principles and application of public relations to provide a high level of customer service.

Standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system.

Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Hazardous materials, emergency management, and the Incident Command System.

Ability to :

Perform a wide range of law enforcement assignments while adhering to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.

Support the Departments mission to provide professional and proactive services in partnership with the community.

Support the Department’s vision that is dedicated to establishing the safest community through exceptional policing.

Support the Department’s core values of courage, commitment, honor, integrity, and respect.

Intermittently, review, and evaluate documents related to department operations; observe, identify, and problem solve field and office operations and procedures;

understand, interpret, and explain department policies and procedures; explain operations and problem solve issues for the public and with staff.

Interpret and explain law enforcement policies and procedures.

Understand, interpret, apply, and enforce applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.

Exercise initiative, courtesy, and function with a significant degree of independence.

Gather, analyze, and evaluate facts and evidence and reach sound conclusions.

Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority and in performance of duties; make decisions under pressure including life-threatening situations.

Interview victims, complainants, witnesses, and persons suspected of criminal activity; conduct a variety of criminal and special investigations.

Administer First Aid, NARCAN, and CPR.

Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.

Effectively use and qualify with law enforcement tools and weapons including firearms, batons, defensive tactics, and other safety equipment.

Operate specialized law enforcement equipment including specialized police vehicles, radios, video systems, and radars.

Operate office equipment including computers and applicable software applications.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.

Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Prepare clear and concise reports and routine correspondence.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
