The Cosmetic Chemist is responsible for supporting the development and stability testing of cosmetic products. This role involves monitoring stability testing, batching formulations, gathering raw materials, managing inventory, and performing general laboratory duties.
The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a passion for cosmetic science.
Key Responsibility :
- Stability Testing :
- Conduct regular stability testing on cosmetic products to ensure product consistency and shelf-life.
- Record and analyze data from stability tests, including physical and chemical characteristics.
- Prepare stability reports and communicate findings to senior chemists and management.
- Batching :
- Assist in the preparation of small-scale batches for formulation development and stability testing.
- Follow detailed batching instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accurate and reproducible results.
- Document all batching activities accurately and maintain proper records.
- Raw Materials Management :
- Gather and prepare raw materials required for formulation and stability testing.
- Ensure raw materials are properly labeled, stored, and handled according to safety protocols.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw materials and notify management of any shortages or discrepancies.
- Inventory Management :
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date inventory of lab supplies and chemicals.
- Perform regular inventory checks and ensure proper stock levels are maintained.
- Assist in ordering and restocking laboratory supplies as needed.
- General Laboratory Duties :
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of laboratory documentation, including SOPs and safety data sheets (SDS).
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in the cosmetic or personal care industry.
- Knowledge of cosmetic formulation and stability testing principles is a plus.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Standing or sitting for extended periods during laboratory work.
- Ability to work with chemicals and laboratory equipment safely.
Working Conditions :
- Laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and laboratory equipment.
