POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller is a key role in the Accounting Department and is responsible for the maintenance and reconciliation of the general ledger, the creation, and review of financial statements, as well as responsible for and review of the work done by staff accountants on a monthly basis.

Additional responsibilities include the reconciliation of asset and liability balances and the creation of supporting work paper documents needed in the yearly review process.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to access accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Provide effective day-to-day supervision of the accounting staff.
  • Conduct Account Reconciliations (Trust Bank accounts, general ledger accounts, etc. and Ensure accuracy of the monthly balance sheet account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Maintain various data tables and generate reports from these tables as needed.
  • Ensure that internal and external customers are provided with timely and accurate assistance.
  • Develop and review Financial Statements for completeness.
  • Formulate ad hoc analysis and review of accounts and expenses as requested.
  • Generate various census and other informational reports as needed.
  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality to ensure that privileged and / or proprietary information is adequately safeguarded against disclosure.
  • Initiate work-paper files and supporting documents needed for yearly review.
  • Review and verify reconciliations for all asset and liability balances.
  • Participate in the coordination of the annual review process.
  • Actively pursue ongoing professional development activities to remain informed of changing industry trends and government regulations.
  • Assist in the completion of special projects and other duties as assigned.

This is a hybrid position that will be required to commute to the Metro Nashville Corporate office twice a week.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance or related field.
  • 5 to 7 years post-graduate experience in public accounting, or 7-10 years as a private sector accountant.
  • CPA Preferred Not Required.
  • Supervisor Experience Preferred Not Required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficient overall computer skills and strong Excel skills are required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Great Plains accounting software is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high professional and ethical standards.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and effectively multi-task.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to converse and respond to common inquiries from consumers and members of the general public.
