Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Breast Ultrasound Technician.
Location : Layton
Hours : Part-time (24-26 hour / wk.)
Perform breast ultrasounds
- Ensure patients are properly prepared for exams and procedures.
- Ensure all finished ultrasound exams are of high diagnostic quality and all administrative work for each exam is in order.
- Recognize and document abnormalities and anomalies.
- Effectively and compassionately communicate with patients, physicians, and radiologists.
- Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings.
Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions for image quality.
- Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.
- Operates equipment to direct non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be recorded, transmitted, and imaged for interpretation and diagnosis by a radiologist.
- Views the prior ultrasound imaging, and ability to correlate with mammography images. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes.
Able to measure and communicate features of the area imaged.
- Keeps patient records and adjusts / maintains equipment.
- Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies / procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements : Education :
Education :
- High school diploma.
- Degree in Sonography from accredited school.
Experience :
Prior breast ultrasound experience is preferred.
Other Requirements :
Current ARDMS certification
Performance Requirements :
Knowledge
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, basic physics, patient care, and medical ethics.
- Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices.
Skills
- Skill in communication and interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in gathering and analyzing patient data.
Abilities
- Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in user-friendly manner.
- Ability to calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.
- Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.
Equipment Operated : Sonography equipment including ultrasound machines, transducers, gels, and computer hardware / software.
Work Environment : Communicating with patients, staff, and radiologists. May include assisting with biopsy procedures. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings.
Mental / Physical Requirements : May be standing for long periods and may have to lift / turn disabled patients. Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
Some stress related to dealing with anxious patients.
