General Summary
Paving Equipment Operators are responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of paving equipment and machinery, including but not limited to screed, roller, paver, steel roller, pneumatic roller, shuttle buggy.
Essential Job Accountabilities
Operate equipment / machines that spread, smooth, compact, and level asphalt on sub-grade and milled surfaces of highways, roadways, parking lots, and related surfaces.
Maintain and make operating adjustments to equipment / machinery as needed.
Observe distribution of paving material and adjust as needed.
Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment as needed.
Maintain a clean and safe job site.
May assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience, preferred.
Work Experience
1-2 years of related asphalt and road construction experience, preferred.
1-2 years of asphalt paving equipment experience, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
Ability to operate equipment and / or machinery within designated area with attention to detail.
Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts.
Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions / confined spaces.
Physical Demands
Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to : grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more
