Mission or Goal of Unit : The mission of theDivision of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is to provide superior subspecialtyclinical care to the children of Central Virginia, to provide outstandingtraining in infectious diseases for medical students, residents, andsubspecialty fellows, and to generate new knowledge through both clinical andbasic science research projects.

Chief Purpose of this position : The Division of Pediatric InfectiousDisease at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is seeking an individual toprovide services as a Pediatric Infectious Disease's physician.

The candidateshould be eager to join and augment a superior academic infectious diseasesdivision that provides clinical coverage within a Pediatric Medical Center thathas recently experienced significant dynamic growth within a new inpatienthospital which opened in April of 2023.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Teaching : Faculty member will have teachingresponsibilities. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship tomedical students, Residents, Chief Residents, and Fellows when applicable.
  • Research : Research aspirations are encouraged but notrequired; support for these activities will depend upon prior accomplishmentsand potential.
  • Service : Faculty member will serve on departmental orSchool of Medicine level committees when appropriate, and engage inprofessional activities through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
  • Clinical : Phone consultation for physicians and other pediatric medical professionals who need assistance and advice with infections disease issues pertinent to their patients.

Consultation for review of antibiotic, antiviral, or antifungal therapies, including assistance in drug monitoring for toxicities and side effects for both inpatient and home health services.

Consultation on epidemiologic issues in the health care setting as well as in the community.

Required Qualifications :

  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
  • Experience with clinical care of patients.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience in an academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills.
