Functional Job Summary :

  • Provide high-level complex compliance services through in-depth legal research and design, development, implementation and maintenance of superior, legally defensible, and system compatible group and individual insurance and annuity products.
  • Work autonomously and exercise judgement and discretion in making decisions.
  • Maintain and enhance The Standard's and NM’s favorable reputation with state insurance departments, professional organizations, and competitors.

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • 5 - 7 years progressively responsible experience in the insurance compliance arena. (PFML, Disability, Claims, etc.)
  • Professional certification required with AIRC and / or FLMI certification recommended.
  • Strong preference for candidates with state-mandated paid family medical leave programs.

Successful Candidates possess the following skills :

  • Design and drafting of contract language for prototypes of new products and enhancements and single-case filings.
  • Leading complex multi-state filings.
  • Ability to negotiate complex and / or sensitive approvals with state departments of insurance.
  • Able to properly interpret complex state and federal statutes and regulations and partner with affected business units to develop compliant solutions.
  • Researching complex questions using internal and external resources.
  • Participation in trade association calls or attending industry meetings in order to monitor trends and provide appropriate feedback in development of new laws and product standards and develop industry contact relationships.
  • Conducting contract language audits.
  • Ability to work with other departments to provide creative solutions to meet customer objectives. Maintain positive and productive working relationships with partner companies.
  • Supporting new business acquisitions and entry into new markets. Ability to mentor and train new team members.
  • Providing advanced training to other departments.
  • Ability to assist with Supervisory functions when necessary.

Job Complexity & Judgment : Works on diverse assignments of complex scope. Exercises independent judgement and discretion based on analysis of multiple sources of information and multiple factors to resolve complex issues.

Makes recommendations for new processes or procedures.

Independence & Supervision required : Generally, works independently with minimal guidance. Work and results are often shared with team.

Interaction & Influence : Contacts are typically division-wide and outside the company as needed to provide or obtain information.

Consults with Management on unusual situations and able to influence decisions. Effective team player.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year.

Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range :

$84,000.00 - $123,250.00
