Purpose of Position
Assists in meal planning, coordination and preparation. Participates in activities of cooks, other kitchen personnel and servers engaged in preparing, cooking and serving foods at KWA meal sites.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares meats, soups, sauces, vegetables, and other foods prior to cooking.
- Cooks foodstuffs in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served.
- Portions cooked foods, or gives instructions to workers as to size of portions and methods of garnishing.
- Serves meals, as necessary.
- Washes dishes, kitchen utensils and keeps kitchen clean.
- Orders supplies and keeps records and accounts as instructed by head cook.
- Receives and examines foodstuffs and supplies to ensure quality and quantity meet established standards and specifications.
- Attends staff meetings as directed.
- Attends training as directed.
- Performs other duties as directed
- Position Requirements, Competencies and Qualifications
- Satisfactorily pass criminal history & reference checks.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to be flexible and perform work under time pressure.
3.1 Education
High school diploma, GED or foreign equivalent preferred.
3.2 Experience in Related Field
6 months or more of food preparation and cooking.
3.3 Unique Expertise / Certification / Registrations
- Must have or obtain food handlers card.
- Working Conditions
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment, which may include high temperatures and food allergens
- Ability to travel to different locations
- Work involves standing most of the time, but may involve walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and traveling
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking, to define problems
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagrammatic or schedule form
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, up to 20 feet or more
