Summary :
The VITA Director is responsible for the operations, logistics, quality, and ongoing assessment of the VITA Program. This includes volunteer recruitment, training, and placement of IRS certified volunteers for the VITA San Antonio Coalition.
This position is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and training of staff under their supervision and will make recommendations for termination of employees.
It also includes operations and oversight of a year-round tax-clinic at Guadalupe Community Center. The VITA director provides direct coordination and access to VITA services, financial education classes for clients, and assists with client tax preparation as needed.
The Director works with the VITA SA coalition and other community partners to achieve the agency and program’s mission, goals, objectives and performance measures.
Position Responsibilities :
- Work with VITA SA coalition to establish coalition goals and objectives.
- Monitor program performance relative to overall organization goals and objectives to include grant requirements and VITA Coalition goals and objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all IRS Tax laws and changes.
- This position is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and training of staff under their supervision and will make recommendations for termination of employees.
- Oversee volunteer coordinator in recruitment efforts to achieve goals set forth by VITA SA coalition. To include Coordinating attendance at volunteer recruitment fairs, outreach opportunities, and other events.
- Oversee the coordination of training for recruited volunteers per IRS standards to become certified and eligible to complete accurate federal tax returns.
- Oversee training for volunteers on importance of all eligible tax credits to increase returns for low to moderate income families.
- Ensure VITA sites are properly staffed with qualified Volunteers.
- Monitor customer service of volunteers to ensure quality services to clients, contractors, and agency partners.
- Quality reviews all volunteer records, such as, state issued ID, Volunteer Agreement, certifications, and volunteer hours contributed, for compliance.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications :
- Education Associate’s degree or degree in business-related field preferred
- Experience Minimum of 3 years’ experience in nonprofit setting with at least 2 years of experience in program management and grant compliance.
Must pass IRS training at advanced level
License and Credentials Reliable transportation Valid driver license, must have clean driving record Valid vehicle insurance Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred
Minimum Knowledge and Skills :
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in customer service including accounting, and processing skills.
- Extensive working knowledge of IRS guidelines.
- Experience with computer software and online tax software (i.e., TaxSlayer software preferred).
- Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
- Must have good written and verbal skills.
- Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Travel Requirements :
Travel requirements for the position include 10% local and 0% overnight.
