University of Maine System - WMPG Program Director

WMPG Community Radio station is seeking a Program Director to oversee the station’s programming and content.

WMPG is a Non-Commercial Educational FCC licensed radio station owned by the University of Maine System, located on the campus of the University of Southern Maine (USM) in Portland, broadcasting locally and streaming online.

The Program Director serves as an integral part of the WMPG management team and is involved in all aspects of planning for the station and meeting WMPG’s long-term goals and strategic vision.

Responsibilities include :

  • Recruiting, training, and supervising USM students and community members as volunteers in on-air radio broadcasting and audio production.
  • Managing the program schedule and making annual changes to keep the programming fresh.
  • Maintaining the WMPG Music Library.
  • Connecting with the USM community for outreach and engagement to strengthen WMPG’s relationships within USM and the community.

This is a full-time position located on our Portland Campus with an annual salary up to $45,000 commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years management and radio experience or equivalent required.
  • Working knowledge of all FCC rules.
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations to make WMPG a welcoming space for everyone.
  • Strong audio editing skills (Hindenburg, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Audacity).
  • Non-profit radio experience and an understanding of a college / community radio station environment.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of journalism and the ethics of communication.
