The Assistant Director’s primary responsibility is to counsel and assist prospective students and families through the college search and enrollment process to Valparaiso University’s Access College for Success.

The Assistant Director also assists with strategies that support the recruitment and enrollment growth of Latino, Latina, and Latinx students.

This includes supporting on- and off-campus events and collaboration with campus partners.

Major Responsibilities :

15% : Build and maintain collaborative relationships with high schools and other community partners by educating them about Access College and HSI.

Representing Access College and HSI at events on and off campus.

15% : In collaboration with program leadership, develop a recruitment strategy for The Access College for Success and HSI.

Review and analyze data to propose school visits, fairs, and relationships with target schools. Then, schedule visits to high schools through phone calls and correspondence, make travel arrangements, conduct visits, and follow up with students, faculty, and staff contacted during visits via phone calls, letters, emails, texts, and in-person meetings.

30% : Serve as point person / admission counselor, review admission requirements, and highlight academic programs. Inform and assist prospective students and their parents about Access College and HSI through meetings with families and facilitating on-campus visits.

Answer emails and texts from prospective students and present on Access College and HSI as necessary. Review Access College applications for admission.

  • 15% Provide HSI support through action items assigned by direct supervisor in particular, serve as a member of the VALE Recruitment Committee and identify and participate in the functions, operations, and activities regarding achieving and maintaining HSI designation, with an emphasis on serving students
  • 10% When needed and identified as necessary, attend local and regional Hispanic college fairs. Be included in updates from the office of admission and the AVP of HSI initiatives.
  • 10% Coordinate and communicate with program leadership by providing reports and updates on recruitment and admission numbers.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills :

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 year experience in Undergraduate Admission or experience in student and community services working directly with high school or college students
  • High energy and enthusiasm with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic, the ability to be highly persuasive, and results oriented
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent oral communication, and adaptability
  • Multicultural, cross-cultural, and intercultural experiences preferred
  • The ability to adjust, modify your own behavior, and remain flexible and tolerant in response to changing situations and environments.

This position entails helping to build the program from the ground up. Evening and weekend hours are required at times.

Bilingual in (English and Spanish) both oral and written preferred.
