POSITION SUMMARY :
In this role, you will assist with hazardous and non-hazardous waste related projects including, other manual labor duties, but not limited to monitoring Air compressor and Steam Generators, performs daily walk through inspections of facilities equipment and grounds noting abnormalities, entering work orders, and making on the spot repairs, coordinating with the production team to gather all recycling materials from the building and prep it for shipment, work with the facilities team to accomplish repairs to the grounds and facilities as assigned.
Must be forklift operator certified or obtain forklift operator certification within 30 days of appointment into position.
Work inside and outside, in both hot and cold environments, and able to consistently lift 50+ pounds thorough out the shift.
Responsibilities
TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE :
- This job requires physical work, working independently and as part of a team.
- Support Environmental and Sustainability Services onsite program.
- Perform labor-intensive activities such as visually inspecting the plastic that is coming from the floor, loading it from the gaylords into the baler, driving the forklift to unload and stack the bales, and load a truck that will be going to the recycler.
- They will also be cross trained on the cardboard recycling program and facilities operations.
- Baling plastic
- Standing, bending, lifting 95% of the time
- Lifting bags of plastic weighing 50-100lbs
- Forklift driving 5% of the time.
- Sorting trash for recyclables and loading of trucks.
- Transfer waste into containers of different sizes.
- Provide support or direction to less experienced Technicians.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Participate and cooperate in safety processes.
- Maintain compliance with environmental, safety and transportation regulations.
- Segregate, label, mark, and package waste materials in a safe and compliant manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Adheres to safety, food safety, quality and legal compliance.
- Knowledgeable in PPE, OSHA, MSDS, lock-out / tag-out, GMP, SSOP, and HACCP
- Perform all work in accordance with environmental, health and safety standards, rules, regulations, and practices of the facility.
- Must be able to pass training / certifications as required for qualification.
- Observe and analyze equipment performance and report any problems to the supervisor.
- Keep area clean and free of safety hazards.
- Document completed work as required by the supervisor.
- Compliance with all other duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform other necessary tasks as directed by manager.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
- Ability to use mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in accordance with production paperwork.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment and / or clothing.
- Stand / Walk 8 or more hours per day.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform duties effectively utilizing hand / eye coordination.
- Frequently lift and carry less than 5 lbs. at waist height handling patties or moving empty boxes up to 10 feet.
- Occasionally squat, grip / grasp, use fine motor tasks and handle / finger.
- Consistently lift and carry 50 + lbs. at waist height when moving patty boxes up to 15 feet.
- Push patty boxes requiring 50+ lbs. of force 3 feet.
- Ability to view objects effectively at multiple distances and colors.
ENVIRONMENTAL / ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS :
- Constantly work in damp, wet, humid, and slippery environments.
- Constantly work near moving equipment in extreme heat / cold (40-45 degrees).
- Constantly work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne debris.
- Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to segmental vibration.
MACHINES / TOOLS / EQUIPMENT / SOFTWARE :
- Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and smock.
- Rubber and cotton gloves.
