JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of dialysis treatment and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  • Works with internal and external resources to maintain machine maintenance and partnership with patients' home dialysis unit.
  • Performs surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water (chlorine, pH, water cultures) to ensure that the machines are operating within the parameters set within manufacturer guidelines.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests and dialysis medications.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence and knowledge in cannulation of dialysis accesses and proper care and use of CVC for dialysis.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of infection control and prevention of blood-borne pathogens.
  • Performs cannulations, initiates, monitors, and discontinues dialysis treatments.
  • Completes head-to-toe nursing assessment of dialysis patients and documents in EMR.
  • Medicates patient as necessary with pain medication, IV antibiotics, etc. and documents in EMR following specific procedures for medication administration per hospital policy.
  • Provides patient education and teaching applicable to patient's medical condition.
  • Works in constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • 6 - 12 months of dialysis experience required (acute-care setting preferred).

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

  • BLS required.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Must have an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois and in good standing.

ON-CALL REQUIRED

Shifts will vary (mostly Days 7 : 00am to 7 : 00pm) 36 hours weekly with rotating Saturdays.
