FLSA Status : Non-exempt; hourly

Pay Rate : $21 / hour

Primary Function

Provide primary leadership for the implementation of CCD (Religious Education Program) to children according to the USCCB’s by administrating the parish catechetical programs to build a solid foundation for the Parish community.

Primary Objectives

  • To form Disciples of Christ by attending to the growth and development of all persons in the way of Catholic church.
  • To assist parents and families in the faith formation of their children through culturally- sensitive and developmentally appropriate
  • To encourage all people to listen for and respond to the mission and vocation God has for them.
  • To provide faith community support for all people, and to integrate children into the life of the parish, and the Church as a whole.
  • To promote life-long spiritual formation and education of all people
  • To foster an awareness of the poor and the marginalized through a commitment to service and justice opportunities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Faith formation in the Catholic tradition, including all CCD requirements and procedures to lead children.
  • Coordination of monthly / weekly calendar
  • Recruitment and management of adult volunteers, CCD teachers,
  • Coordinates retreats, service opportunities, fundraisers, and other events
  • Appropriate, detailed record keeping.
  • Develop and maintain emergency action plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare, schedule sacramental programs and worship.
  • Design and implement programs to assist parents in deepening their knowledge of the faith and to encourage the practice of Catholic Traditions in the home and life.
  • Keep inventory updated and place the order of textbooks, teaching materials and resources.
  • Support and endorse Diocesan and Parish board.

Leadership Duties

  • Assist in recruiting volunteer catechists for the program and appropriate in-service training and formation for them.
  • Identify and support the training for them.
  • Counsel, advise, & visit students, parents & teachers when necessary.
  • Serve as a member of the Liturgy Council and attend meetings.
  • Work to integrate the total parish religious education.
  • Meet regularly with parish staff for planning and coordination calendar.

Requirements :

  • Active, practicing member of the Catholic Church, and excellent knowledge and adherence to Church teaching life.
  • Must maintain appropriate certifications (see below) and attend enrichment courses and programs as appropriate.
  • Desire and enthusiasm for working with all age demographics.
  • Highly self- motivated, creative, energetic, and assertive
  • Demonstrated spiritual and emotional maturity.
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, budgeting, and ability to balance multiple projects at a time.
  • Close collaboration with Pastor and Youth / Confirmation Director to meet the pastoral needs of the whole parish community.
  • Demonstrate capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship.
  • Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current on trends in catechetical.

Education and Experience

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office products
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Current California Catechists Certificate
  • Experience working with (volunteer or paid staff)
  • Successful completion of parish Safe Environment program
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology or related field preferred
  • Certified as a Master Catechist preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone.

The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the St. Rita Parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events.

employee must be able to climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
