Job Summary
The Mover & Grounds Specialist performs moves, supports campus events. Performs snow removal, grounds and landscape duties, and equipment operations associated with the maintenance of the campus.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in moving and equipment operation
- Valid Driver’s License

- Ability to read, write and perform simple arithmetic
- Ability to safely lift and move items as required
- Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office and job specific software
- Ability work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Must have the ability to work flexible hours which may include, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to operate liftgates and platforms
- Ability to independently operate snow removal equipment
- Ability to follow instructions and operate hand and power equipment
- Ability to work with a diverse population
Job Duties
- Process work order requests for completion associated with moving support.
- Operate fleet moving truck in transportation of equipment, materials and other items as requested. Safely operate material handling equipment such as, but not limited to lift gates, pallet jacks and loading dock lifts.
- Provide support for campus functions and events, including event preparation, setup and breakdown, litter control and site restoration.
- Protect items being transported and moved using appropriate materials. Protect buildings, elevators, grounds as necessary in preparation for movement of items.
Assess building spaces, including rooms, hallways, and / or elevators, and materials to be moved for damage prior to move and document and report any pre-existing damage.
- Assist in sustainment of moving equipment, storage areas and equipment maintenance. Notify E&SS management of any equipment needing to be repaired and / or replaced.
- Comply with standing instructions provided by operating manuals, safety rules and regulations for personal protection and safety and the safety of others.
Report instances of vandalism / theft of Institute property immediately to Supervisor or Public Safety. Maintain work and storage areas in a clean, organized and safe condition.
Perform snow removal functions in accordance with the Institute snow removal plan. Respond to and be available for weather related emergencies as necessary to maintain safe transportation through campus.
Operate, maintain and inspect all snow removal equipment in accordance with Institute’s standards.
Perform tasks necessary for routine maintenance of campus grounds. Inspect, maintain and operate grounds and field related power equipment at proper working and safety standards.
Clean equipment at the end of each use . Report and document any needed repairs of equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift
Business Hours. Must have the ability to work flexible hours which may include, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Driving
Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use
Starting Salary / Rate
Expected hiring range : $16.20 - $17.16
Pay transparency disclosure : The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials.
