Job Summary :
The Registered Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, using standard physical and chemical procedures to fill written prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, and other qualified prescribers.
Provides drug information to physicians, other professional personnel, patients and their families and / or significant others.
Supervises and checks work of pharmacy aides, non-registered pharmacists and other personnel. Monitors drug profiles for contraindications, incompatibilities, allergic and dosing errors, documents interventions as required by the Pharmacy Department’s Performance Improvement Plan.
Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law and pharmacy policies.Instruct patients upon discharge regarding proper use of medications.
Requirements / Skills :
- Graduate from an approved School of Pharmacy.
- Must possess current license to practice as registered pharmacist in N.Y.S
- Must fulfill NY State required continuing education for pharmacist.
- Completion of 1 year Pharmacy internship.
- Ability to bend, stretch, and reach necessary for handling / fingering labels, vials, and apparatus used for compounding medications.
- Verbal ability is needed to interpret and and understand written prescriptions, formularies, and reference texts, as well as for presenting data and information on pharmaceuticals to physicians, staff and public.
