Responsibilities
The Telephone Medical Assistant will handle phone calls and voicemail from the patients who are seeking medical information and / or medical attention.
The Medical Assistant will address patient clinical questions, explaining / documenting laboratory results, calling in prescription refills, explaining procedures / treatments, initiating prior authorizations, and scheduling.
- Answering phone calls and voicemails.
- Answering patient clinical questions.
- Review medical history and counsel patients regarding their clinical status and need for further evaluation or treatment.
- Evaluate a new complaint by phone and triage to emergent, urgent, or routine appointments.
- Locate laboratory results not yet in the patient's medical records.
- Explaining / documenting laboratory results.
- Calling in prescription refills.
- Explaining procedures and treatments.
- Initiating prior authorizations.
- Schedules appointments and urgent visits as appropriate.
- Documenting all information into the computer system.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all patient information.
- Adheres to policies / safety practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education Level : Diploma from an accredited program for Medical Assistants required. MA certification required; if not currently certified, certification must be obtained within 6 months to 1 year dependent on state requirements.
Experience Years : 1+ years' experience in office-based setting preferred.
Experience Industry : Healthcare
- CPR certification required
- Must have the ability to follow universal precautions,
- Ability to maintain OSHA standards and HIPAA regulations.
