Assistant Distribution Manager

Reporting to : Distribution Manager

Location : Houston, TX

Position Summary :

The Assistant Distribution Manager assists the Distribution Manager in the hiring, training, and scheduling of employees.

Will also assist in developing, implementing, and managing logistic strategies designed to ensure continuous distribution of wire and cable consistent with established standards, customer specifications, and production goals.

Tasks / Duties / Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Distribution Manager, oversees activities of employees engaged in shipping, receiving, loading, and unloading trucks and in storing, retrieving, packing, and distributing finished goods
• Assigns team members to specific duties, such as verifying amounts of and storing incoming production products and assembling customer orders
• Leads safety culture in all facets of work
• Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to develop strategic plans and procedures to increase the efficiency of warehouse practices
• Ensures orderly stacking / storage of product, picking and staging of outgoing shipments in accordance with high level of productivity and that incoming and outgoing shipments are complete and free of damage
• Establishes operational procedures for verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, analyzes warehouse inventory, and provides reports showing slow-moving and / or surplus stock
• Reviews bills of lading for incoming product and customer orders in order to plan work activities
• Timely and efficiently maintains accurate and necessary department records and documentation
• Ensures appropriate maintenance of equipment and a clean and safe work environment
• Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices
• Coordinates activities with sales, inventory control, purchasing, and transportation departments
• Optimizes and coordinates fulfillment order lifecycle
• Drives a high level of internal and external customer service
• Ensures that all products and services are consistent and meet both external and internal requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectations
• Assesses opportunities to reduce waste and increase efficiency
• Maintains active role on internal continuous improvement initiatives
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

• Associates degree or equivalent distribution experience / education combination required
• Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or related fields a plus
• Demonstrated ability to meet and drive positive, lasting, and high customer service levels
• Minimum of 4+ years of related experience in distribution management
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills
• Experience in continuous improvement / lean principles preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficient with inventory management software and systems
• Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with tight scheduling requirements
• Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
