Position Summary :
The School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a position in special education at the K-12 level with an emphasis on high incidence disabilities starting July 1, 2025.
This is a full-time, 9-month tenure-line or tenured appointment depending on rank at the time of hire.
Candidates will carry out a research program related to special education and K-12 teacher education, actively pursue external funding, and contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary research and instructional efforts across the School of Education and campus.
- Candidates also will (a) develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education and related areas, including pre-service teacher education;
- b) contribute to the ongoing development of undergraduate and graduate programs; actively recruit and supervise graduate students;
d) support strategic initiatives across the School and campus; and (e) provide leadership and service at the local, state, and national levels.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in special education or a closely related field.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must have an earned doctorate at the time of hire. Candidates at the Associate Professor and Professor levels must have an established record of research, funding, teaching, and service to meet the University’s requirements for tenure and appointment at the rank.
Depending on rank, candidates will demonstrate a research program that will lead to an outstanding and sustained record of scholarship and securing external funding or will already have such an established record.
Candidates will have strong potential, or an established record, of outstanding university teaching and guiding students through dissertation research projects.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :
Strong preference will be given to candidates with a research focus on teaching and learning for K-12 students with high-incidence disabilities and / or preparation or continued education for special education teachers.
