POSITION SUMMARY
This role would assist in purchasing low to medium value and risk goods for United Utility Supply resale. This will include materials for the outside warehouses & consignment locations.
The role will monitor vendor performance and maintain a current database of vendor information. In addition, this position will continuously work to identify and implement process efficiencies and cost savings.
All work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Procurement & Inventory Control.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures timeliness and accuracy of all purchase orders issued to vendors for the purchase of resale material.
- Works with multiple vendors to determine the best arrangements for the company, based on price, quality, lead time, and other factors.
- Stays up to date on current events that may affect availability, lead times, costs and any other potential procurement impacts.
- Drives cost avoidance and cost savings through supplier negotiations and / or process improvements.
- Works collaboratively with internal customers to assess needs withing assigned area of responsibility while optimizing inventory levels.
- Manage supplier relationships for assigned area of responsibility.
- Solve procurement related issues and escalate as appropriate.
- Assists with the response to emergency situations (such as storms) by contacting vendors for storm shipments, alternate items, and services such as expedited delivery.
- Performs special projects as assigned and be back-up support to the Operations group.
- Performs other duties as assignment by management.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor Degree preferred
- Minimum 2 yrs procurement or inventory experience
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral); including ability to handle / resolve vendor complaints or adversarial situations with strong attention to detail.
- May need to work additional hours as necessary (such as weather emergencies)
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suites and ability to use internet-based business-related computer programs
