The Production Manager provides holistic leadership for the operations team in one of Tippe’s production plants. The individual needs an in-depth understanding of the production operation, will establish strategies, have close interaction with different departments, and will develop leadership skills.
The production manager has full ESHS (PSM, OSHA, EPA) regulatory responsibility for a multi-product 24 / 7 operation. Quality accountability for all products including GMP pharmaceutical regulatory requirements, Evonik policies and procedures, and customer requirements belong to the production manager.
Financial performance and optimization including budget reporting, controlling, and accountability for cost center budget and production profitability are the responsibility of the production manager.
Schedule conformance including daily tracking of OEE, staffing levels, and customer delivery timelines. Finally the production manager has direct and full HR responsibility for the production staff within the plant, a team of 50.
Beyond this the production manager has informal leadership of all necessary support functions, typically another 20 technical support staff (engineering, maintenance, supply chain, QA, QC, ESHS, etc.)
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES : The major activities or end results necessary to fulfill the position requirements on an ongoing basis.
Safety / Quality / Environmental
- Personal safety for everyone entering the department.
- Implementation of process safety measures.
- Ensures compliance with site procedures, policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensures employees are adequately trained to do their jobs.
People
- Assume full administrative responsibility for individuals. This includes successfully resolving personnel issues, accountability, performance management, merit delivery and promotions.
- Development of departmental and individual goals, employee development including succession planning, individual development, coaching for success
- Recruit and Retain : lead efforts for both entry level operations staff and numerous higher level positions
Leadership
- Responsible for leading the organization through expense, capital, headcount, and business planning activities aligning with site and corporate business plans.
- Create a challenging, open and high integrity work environment that fosters the continued development of the staff.
- Communicate direction, objectives, and results to the department, Tippe plant site, and Evonik.
- Provide both personal and technical leadership to the staff.
- Work constructively with leadership to further elaborate and implement a strategic vision for the operation.
- Seek out and implement novel approaches to improving the operation.
- Hold teams and individuals accountable for action plan timelines and results.
Operational Excellence :
- Responsible for meeting site objectives in core areas of customer service, technical support, improvement of systems, and key support for productivity projects utilizing both external and internal resources.
- Initiate and influence key decisions and take overall responsibility for time schedule, costs, quality and plant operability.
- To develop and maintain measures to monitor operational efficiency and capacity.
- To act as a steward for continuous improvement of the processes and systems that supports the flow of work through the operations.
- Initiate and introduce standards, tools, procedures, safety, cGMP and compliance initiatives in assigned area.
- Monitor and report assigned cost center metrics on a regular basis.
- Be an advocate and champion for change initiatives which can improve current procedures, methods, processes, etc. Identify, lead, investigate, and implement changes as necessary.
Customer :
- Working effectively with customers to ensure that their needs are being met.
- To proactively seek feedback from the customer regarding the quality and timeliness of services.
- Act upon customer feedback for improvement.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or closely related manufacturing engineering / science degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of previous plant experience
- Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Proven cross-functional leadership skills
- Knowledge of cGMP operations.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement and results oriented initiatives.
- Customer-focused, and able to communicate clearly and professionally representing Evonik’s interest well in customer interactions.
