Our client, a global law firm in the Am Law 100, is seeking a genAI and Machine Learning Applications evangelist . This is a leadership role but will not manage people to start.
This role will report to the Generative AI Attorney Committee and work side by side with the Director of Applications Firmwide to implement AI and ML technologies aimed at streamlining attorney workflows and enhancing overall efficiency.
In this role, you will curate and evaluate third-party AI solutions, craft the firmwide AI roadmap, champion attorney AI adoption, help navigate the AI Ethics and Compliance landscape, drive continuous innovation, and participate in the firm’s data strategy and data management.
The ideal candidate would have experience with data mining and machine learning techniques, algorithms, frameworks, and statistical analysis tools and exposure to common data science programming, scripting, and data manipulation languages.
This candidate should be a technologist, potentially an attorney, but does not need to be an engineer. Any previous experience assisting a law firm in developing a matter budgeting calculator, an alternative fee arrangement calculator, implementing an automated time capture tool, and working with marketing to surface new prospects will garner specific interest from our client.
The Opportunity :
As the AI Strategy and Machine Learning Evangelist, you'll be responsible for driving the firm's adoption and development of genAI solutions as part of the firmwide digital transformation.
This role goes beyond just understanding AI it's about harnessing its power to enhance services, streamline operations, and provide unparalleled value to clients.
This role will report to the Generative AI Attorney Committee and Director of Applications and vet, select, and implement AI and ML technologies geared towards reducing mundane or repetitive tasks and shifting attorney focus on complex legal issues.
The AI Manager will also develop governance recommendations for all AI applications and solutions, help enact firm policy on AI, develop and maintain an aligned technology roadmap, and be accountable for all delivery of all AI initiatives by internal and partner resources.
Key Projects Currently Identified Include :
- Assisting the firm in developing a matter budgeting calculator
- Assisting with the construction of an alternative fee arrangement calculator
- Helping attorneys identify and build business development opportunities using technology to surface new prospects
- Implementing an automated time capture tool that submits entries into the firm’s billing systems
Main Responsibilities and Objectives :
1. Curate and Evaluate AI Solutions
- The AI scout identifying and assessing tools that can truly impact the litigation practice
- Develop a keen eye for separating AI hype from genuine legal tech breakthroughs to triage solutions for the firm’s AI committee
- Orchestrate pilots and proof-of-concepts
- Supportive of an inherently Buy over Build culture, then build into what is bought
2. Craft Firm’s AI Roadmap
- Collaborate with litigation practice leaders to align AI initiatives with firm strategy
- Develop a clear, actionable plan for AI integration across different areas the litigation practice
- Balance innovation with practicality, ensuring the firm’s AI investments deliver ROI
3. Champion AI Adoption
- Design and lead engaging training programs that turn AI skeptics into enthusiasts
- Create a vibrant AI knowledge base, including a library of effective prompts and prompting techniques
- Be the go-to AI advisor for litigators, demystifying complex concepts
4. Navigate the AI Ethics and Compliance Landscape
- Stay ahead of the curve to advise firm leaders on AI regulations, ethical guidelines in litigation, and client requirements
- Develop robust AI policies that ensure compliance and build client trust
- Collaborate with our legal experts to address emerging AI-related challenges in litigation
5. Vendor and Stakeholder Management
- Negotiate favorable terms with AI providers, maximizing value while focusing on firm priorities
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, from senior partners to IT teams
- Translate between tech-speak and legal-speak, ensuring clear communication
6. Drive Continuous Innovation
- Keep the firm at the cutting edge by staying immersed in the AI legal tech scene, particularly in litigation
- Identify opportunities for custom AI solutions that address unique firm needs in litigation
- Measure and showcase the impact of AI on the practice, from efficiency gains to new capabilities
7. Data Strategy and Management
- Assess and optimize our current data infrastructure to support AI initiatives
- Develop strategies to enhance data quality, accessibility, and usability across the firm
- Collaborate with IT and practice groups to implement data governance best practices
- Identify opportunities to leverage our vast data resources for AI-driven insights and improved litigation outcomes
8. General administration
- Responsible for managing the day-to-day administration, planning, and problem-solving for AI products and solutions
- Must be able to break down attorney workflows into individual tasks that can be evaluated for automation
- Assist attorneys and staff with AI questions
9. Solution and product evaluation
- Work with legal teams and IT to evaluate commercial AI solutions
- Research and identify AI and ML applications and solutions to enhance efficiency
- Research legal AI trends and stay up to date with the latest legal AI applications and solutions
- Evaluate use cases, create budgets and timelines for POCs / POVs, and make purchasing recommendations to the firm attorneys
- Monitor performance of data integrations, transformations, and AI / ML models
10. Project management
Lead and participate in change management lifecycle, including requirement gathering, implementation, testing, and support.
Create and implement appropriate change management plans for projects to prepare attorneys for the delivery of the services and products created by projects
Work with key stakeholders to gather, document, and review business requirements for projects on a regular cadence. Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for both technical and business suitability.
Discuss process findings with the team, and design appropriate IT solutions to meet firm needs
Manage external vendors working on projects in accordance with firm policies and state and federal laws
11. Documentation
- Coordinate with the training department to create end-user AI training
- Document business processes, interaction flows, data flow processes, use cases, test cases, business requirements, etc.
Examine existing business models and flows of data. Work with subject matter experts to understand, decompose, and document business processes.
Expected to understand the current workflow processes in technical and functional detail. Identify and document modifications and enhancements to the processes

- Litigation industry experience is a plus, but we value adaptability and learning agility above all
Expected salary for this exempt role is $200,000 - $275,000, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
