OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
Manages technology infrastructure to include routers, switches, cabling, network hardware and software and related peripherals to support organizational objectives of secure, efficient and effective operations.
Monitors network utilization and security systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains and supports the Credit Union's local and wide area network needs. Documents changes, maintaining current network topology.
Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of network administration duties.
- Develops efficient methods for managing network systems to minimize downtime and increase security on the network.
- Reviews systems technical controls, provides actionable input to improve network security and acts in fulfillment of security objectives.
Ensures the integrity and availability of network systems.
- Identifies better approaches to implement security. Reviews and assesses network and system security architectures to ensure a practical and secure design is implemented.
- Researches, diagnoses and resolves problems within the network infrastructure. Maintains activity logs and makes recommendations for new network products.
- Proactively manages vendors, communicating software and hardware problems and enhancements maintaining oversight to ensure timely completion of project work.
- Researches feasibility of projects, enhancements and proposals by gathering facts, contacting in-house users and outside vendors, comparing assigned objectives and testing various options.
- Maintains complete and accurate inventory of network assets, support agreements and warranties.
- Creates updates and changes Information Technology operational information, system utilization logs and other vital recordkeeping as directed.
- Stays abreast of hardware and software developments. Recommends new technologies and processes that enhance the efficiency and security of the network infrastructure.
- Responsible for accurate reporting of critical monitoring services.
- Configures software for network installation and company-wide implementation.
- Trains and educates staff on network problems, changes to topology, policy and procedure manuals.
- Communicates problems and unusual situations to IT Manager in a timely fashion.
- Works with IT team as needed on projects such as servers, applications, core systems, etc.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze technology related issues, troubleshoot, and implement technology-based solutions.
- Ability to maintain organizational & documentation required to maintain inventory systems, day-to-day processes, and procedural run-logs.
- A working knowledge of Firewall, Intrusion Detection, Web Filter, and email filter technologies.
- Fundamental understanding of TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, VPN, and SD-WAN Technologies.
- Ability to communicate highly technical information into user-friendly terms to both users, managers, vendors, and other support staff.
- High level of organizational skills.
- Ability to set priorities to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Associates degree in computer information systems or similar technology certifications required. Experience may be substituted for education.
- Fortinet and Extreme Networks experience a plus.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Windows.
- CCNA / CCNP or equivalent certification is preferred. Net+ certification at a minimum.
- Four years information systems networking experience required with progressive responsibilities in information systems procedures.
- General knowledge of credit unions or financial institutions is a plus.
