DarrowEverett LLP is looking for a Paralegal / Administrative Assistant to support one of our Partners in our Family Law practice.
The candidate must have excellent communication and administrative skills, be highly organized and detail-oriented, be able to multitask without sacrificing efficiency, be responsible, and be able to represent the firm, always, in ways that enhance its reputation.
Paralegal / Administrative Assistant handles both traditional secretarial tasks and as well as tasks specific to the legal field.
On an average day, this role will range from answering phones and sending emails, managing projects, to preparing subpoenas, motions, and other legal documents.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafting legal documents including, but not limited, routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories, subpoenas, and summonses.
- Coordinate appointments, including all correspondence and logistics necessary
Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
- Manage legal documentation and correspondence in strict confidence.
- Transcribe and proofread legal documents
- Accurately file documents with the court ahead of deadlines
- File, organize, scan, copy and fax legal documents in an organized and timely manner
- Answer phone calls, take notes / messages and redirect calls when appropriate
- Schedule court depositions, hearings, and other meetings
- Facilitate administrative projects, meeting of deadlines, and provide timely reminders.
Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications for Legal Secretary
- 2+ years' experience as a paraprofessional
- Familiarity with legal documents and terminology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Able to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
- Able to work as a team with attorneys and other colleagues
- Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with electronic court filing.
Physical criteria :
- Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours a day
- Ability to hear and respond to conversations professionally
- Ability to use a mouse, keyboard
- Ability to handle varying stress levels (high, very high) and maintain professional composure.
