Overview

The R&D Lab Assistant performs a wide variety of technical support tasks for Melaleuca's new and existing products. The Lab Assistant is expected to conduct the necessary laboratory / testing work to support senior R&D associates.

This includes generating and analyzing data, making observations and recommendations to their supervisor. The work is typically hands on, in a lab, a production facility, and a warehouse / Distribution Center environment.

Responsibilities

Essential

  • Performs established test procedures. Becomes proficient in standard operating procedures and test methods relevant to the position.
  • Records data & observations per established department standards, including the use of Laboratory Notebooks.
  • Documents and summarizes experimental data for review and interpretation.
  • Communicates results or observations to supervisor and other team members, making special note of unexpected results or observations.
  • Maintains and supplies materials for a safe, orderly laboratory working environment.
  • Performs storage stability tests for trial compositions and Melaleuca products.
  • Evaluates competitive products, Melaleuca products, and trial compositions according to established procedures.
  • Calibrates and maintains lab equipment.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment in the laboratory space you work in.

Additional

  • Prepares prototypes for sensory and in home use tests of Melaleuca products and competative products.
  • Assists other R&D associates during workload surges or when your own workload is minimal.
  • Uses internal computer systems to record and analyze data, prepare graphs, reports, and memos, and communicate with coworkers in R&D and in other Melaleuca Departments.
  • Performs and summarizes experimental designs incorporating multiple samples.
  • Assists other R&D associates in project development work as needed.

Qualifications

Essential

  • High school education or equivalent with 1-2 years of experience in a research environment
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for the duration of the workday.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), and data entry skills.
  • Good math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc.).
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting with efficiency, accuracy, & high attention to detail.
  • Ability to represent the department positively.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30lbs.

Preferred

  • Science background and / or laboratory experience.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Familiarity with basic statistical tests.
  • Knowledge of commonly used lab instruments (e.g. pH meter, viscometer, balances, etc.).
  • Use technical manuals such as CTFA Dictionary, US Pharmacopoeia, supplier literature, etc.
