The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the administration, coordination, and evaluation of both the Promise education program and the certified residential program, and summer camp at Kelberman.
This role involves managing nursing staff, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and developing and implementing care plans that meet the needs of students and residents.
The Director of Nursing will work closely with other healthcare professionals, administrative staff, and families to provide high-quality care and maintain a safe, effective, and supportive environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
- Lead and manage the nursing team, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff performance.
- Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Schedule and coordinate nursing to ensure adequate coverage and quality care.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing education and professional development opportunities.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized plans for residents.
- Ensure that all nursing practices adhere to current standards and regulations for care and safety.
- Monitor and assess health statuses and respond to changes in conditions promptly.
- collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate and manage care.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including those specific to OPWDD, OCFS, SED, and DOH and any other regulatory bodies that may apply.
- Prepare and maintain documentation required for licensing and certification.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
- Address and resolve any compliance issues or deficiencies promptly.
- Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance care and operational efficiencies.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators and clinical outcomes to drive improvement.
- Address and investigate any incidents, complaints, or concerns related to nursing care.
- Manage the nursing budget, including resource allocation and cost control.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for nursing services.
- Prepare reports and communicate with the executive team regarding nursing operations and care.
- Communicate effectively with residents, students, and their families regarding care plans, treatment options, and any changes in health status.
- Provide support and education to families about care and health management.
- Promote and enforce infection control protocols and safety procedures.
- Ensure the nursing staff is trained in emergency procedures and that all emergency equipment is accessible and operational.
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision, and values.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements : JOB REQUIREMENTS
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Current RN license required. Certification in nursing administration or related certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience required; experience in a leadership or management role within a residential, education, or long-term care setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of nursing care standards, regulations, and best practices in residential and educational settings.
- Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in staff supervision and development.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- proficiency in using healthcare management software and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and move patients and medical equipment as necessary.
- Ability to handle complex situations and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
